OUR CINQUAIN POEMS

We have learnt about a different kind of poem.  This one is also from Japan.  It is called a Cinquain Poem.  It is similar to a Haiku in that each line has a certain number of syllables but it is a bit trickier as you have to include certain types of words in each line.
Line 1 - 1 noun (2 syllables)
Line 2 - 2 adjectives (4 syllables)
Line 3 - 3 'ing' words (6 syllables)
Line 4 - phrase or a sentence (8 syllables)
Line 5 - 1 noun to rename 1st noun (2syllables)

Here are the two poems we came up with.  They are both about Myst.
Chamber
Scary, creepy
Searching, pressing, finding
Message from the turbulent pool.
Dungeon

                                                 Myst Book
              Dusty, mouldy
              Ageing, falling, dropping
Tumbling from the dark, dark sky.

MYST HAIKU POEM

In class we learnt how to write haiku poems.  A haiku poem is from Japan and is usually written about something in nature.  It is 3 lines long.  The first line has to have 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the last line has 5 syllables.  They are very tricky to write because you have to think carefully about the words you will choose to make sure they have just the right number of syllables.
Here is the poem we wrote together in class

Myst Ocean
Water all around
Gently lapping on the rocks
Clapping and splashing.

MYST ACROSTIC POEM

In writing block we have started using the video game MYST.  It is a great game to help us improve our descriptive writing.  We have also been learning how to write different kinds of poems.  The first poem we wrote was an ACROSTIC POEM.  Most of us have written these kinds of poems before.  This is the poem we made up together.
